From dress codes and theme nights to booking logistics and resort comparisons, these are the questions we hear most from first-time and returning guests. If you cannot find your answer here, drop us a line.

Booking & Planning

Click any booking link on our site and you will be taken directly to the official reservation page for that resort or cruise. We are an affiliate partner of Original Group, so booking through our links costs you nothing extra and helps support our editorial.

Cancellation policies vary by resort and rate type. Most standard bookings allow free cancellation up to 14 days before arrival. Promotional rates may be non-refundable. Always check the specific terms at the time of booking, as policies can change seasonally.

The dry season from November to April offers the most reliable weather on the Riviera Maya. December through March is peak season with higher occupancy and prices. If you prefer quieter pools and lower rates, May, June, and early November are excellent. Hurricane season runs from June to November, but most storms miss Cancun entirely.

All resorts are accessible from Cancun International Airport (CUN). Desire Riviera Maya and Desire Pearl are roughly 30 minutes south of the airport. Temptation Cancun Resort is about 20 minutes north in the Hotel Zone. Most guests book private transfers through the resort or a third-party service. Shared shuttles are also available but less convenient.

Resort Experience

Desire resorts are clothing-optional in pool, beach, and hot tub areas. Clothing is required in restaurants and the lobby. Theme nights have their own dress codes, which range from elegant to playful. Temptation Cancun is topless-optional at designated pool areas but not clothing-optional. Smart casual is expected at dinner restaurants across all properties.

Desire Riviera Maya and Desire Pearl are strictly couples-only and adults-only (21+). Single guests are not permitted. Temptation Cancun Resort welcomes couples, groups, and solo travellers aged 21 and over. All three properties are child-free.

Photography policies vary by resort. At Desire properties, phones and cameras are not permitted in pool and beach areas to protect guest privacy. Photos are fine in restaurants, your room, and common indoor spaces. Temptation is more relaxed, but always ask before photographing other guests. All resorts have professional photographers available for couple portraits.

Gratuities are not included in the all-inclusive rate but are greatly appreciated. Most guests tip between $1-5 USD per service for bartenders, wait staff, and housekeeping. It is customary to bring small bills. Some guests leave a larger tip at the end of their stay for staff who made a particular impression.

Theme Nights

Theme nights are evening events held several times per week at Desire and Temptation resorts. Each night has a different dress code and atmosphere, from Glow Party (neon and UV paint) to Toga Night, Sexy Schoolgirl/Schoolboy, and Elegant Black & White. They typically start after dinner and run until the early hours, with DJ sets, live entertainment, and themed decorations.

Participation is entirely optional. Many couples enjoy dressing up and joining the fun, while others prefer a quiet dinner and an early night. There is no pressure either way. That said, theme nights are a highlight for most guests, and even watching from the sidelines can be entertaining.

Each theme night has suggested attire, which is published on the resort app or announced at the pool. Costumes range from simple (all-white for Toga Night) to elaborate (lingerie for Naughty Schoolgirl). You do not need to go all-out. Many guests bring a few accessories and improvise. Our packing guide has specific recommendations for every major theme.

Desire vs Temptation

Desire resorts are couples-only, clothing-optional, and oriented towards sensual experiences in an intimate setting. Temptation Cancun is open to couples, groups, and singles, is topless-optional (not clothing-optional), and has a more social, party-forward atmosphere. Desire tends to attract couples aged 30-55, while Temptation skews slightly younger with a broader mix.

If you and your partner want privacy, sensuality, and a boutique feel, choose Desire. Desire Pearl is the smaller and more tranquil of the two Desire properties. Desire Riviera Maya is larger with more entertainment and theme nights. If you are a first-timer, enjoy socialising, or want a livelier party scene, Temptation Cancun is the ideal starting point.

Yes, many returning guests split their stay between Desire Riviera Maya and Desire Pearl, which are next to each other on the same stretch of coastline. You can book separate stays and walk between the two. Temptation is in the Cancun Hotel Zone, about 30 minutes north, so combining it with a Desire stay requires a transfer but is absolutely doable.

Travel Logistics

Citizens of the UK, US, Canada, EU, and most other Western countries do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 180 days in Mexico. You will need a valid passport with at least six months remaining. An electronic immigration form (FMM) is typically provided on arrival or can be completed online in advance.

Cancun International Airport (CUN) serves all three resorts. It is one of the busiest airports in Mexico and is well connected with direct flights from London, Manchester, New York, Miami, Toronto, and most major North American and European cities. Flight time from London is approximately 10.5 hours.

Mexico uses the Mexican Peso (MXN), but US Dollars are widely accepted at the resorts and in tourist areas. Since the resorts are all-inclusive, you will rarely need cash beyond tips and off-site excursions. English is spoken fluently by resort staff, and all signage, menus, and entertainment are bilingual. Basic Spanish is appreciated but not necessary.
